You can’t separate child safety from identity. An LGBTQ+ youth who’s told “you don’t belong here” is not safe—even if no one is hitting them.But a youth who’s told, “You’re safe, you’re seen, and you matter,” begins to rebuild. The child abuse field must move beyond tolerance to full, proactive inclusion—because healing requires more than intervention. It requires belonging.
